Landscape Materials
The materials used throughout a landscape affect both how it looks and how it functions. Mulch can give planting beds a clean finish, while stone, gravel, and sand can be used for everything from drainage and pathways to decorative areas and landscape construction.
Dreamscapes works with a variety of landscape materials for different needs and styles. Browse our commonly used options below. If you need materials for your own project, visit our Landscape Supply Yard for information about pickup, delivery, and available quantities.
Mulch Materials
Mulch comes in different colors, textures, and sizes, making it easy to choose a material that works with the plants, home, and overall look of the landscape. Our options include natural bark products, pine straw, colored mulches, and playground mulch.

Things to Know About Dyed Mulches
Colored mulch needs a little extra care when it is first delivered and spread. The wood is a natural product, so color can vary slightly from one batch to another. Dyed mulch is also often still wet when it arrives, and the colorant needs time to fully cure.
- Order enough material to complete the area at one time when possible. This helps avoid noticeable color differences between batches.
- Wear older clothes and shoes while handling freshly dyed mulch because the colorant can temporarily stain fabric.
- Avoid spreading dyed mulch when rain is expected immediately after installation.
- If plants need water, water them before spreading the mulch.
- Allow about 48 hours before watering the newly mulched area.
- Use a tarp when mulch is placed on a driveway or other paved surface to make cleanup easier.
- If colorant gets on concrete, clean it with soap, water, and a stiff bristle broom.
Stone, Gravel & Sand
Stone and gravel can serve very different purposes around a property. Some materials are selected mainly for drainage or as a base for landscape construction, while others are used where the stone itself will remain visible in a walkway, planting area, dry creek bed, or other landscape feature.
The right choice depends on where the material is going and what it needs to do. Size, texture, color, and drainage all matter, especially in areas where water movement or foot traffic is a concern.

Choosing the Right Landscape Material
Start with what the area needs to do. A decorative bed has different requirements than a drainage area, walkway, driveway, or construction base. From there, you can compare the size, texture, and color of the materials that fit the job.
